Serial port driver parameter standards?

As per the title really, looking to see if there are any defined standards for extended or additional serial devices. I am aware that SuperHermes has it's own additional syntax for it's serial ports, but wanted to know if any overall standard was in place. Looking to add the following: a) Xon/Xoff h...

Re: SMSQ/E Source Reading

I have been reading the SMSQ/E source code files, which I find very good and specific 68000 assembly language reference material. I get the impression that I'm probably the only person in the world who finds Tony's code extremely hard to read! I suppose it must be me that's "at fault" the...

Re: Help fixing a dead QL

Changing the 157 for the dead one may indeed indicate a shorted address line - as these multiplex the address lines, it may be the dead one prevents the issue loading devices upstream...

Re: Help fixing a dead QL

ROM addresses seem ok - otherwise it wouldn't get as far as the F1/F2 prompt - but clearly a failure somewhere in RAM still - solder blobs, shorted tracks - lifted tracks - worth checking for all these I have a semi-dead QL that has a shorted track under the RAMS - it's a bugger to lift and replace ...

Re: Master failed ?

The last error you get suggests something wrong with the interface itself. I think in this design there are no GAL's as such, as the logic is all within the main chip on the board. I wonder if you may have a damaged pin on the CF card socket that might be causing issues and possibly shorting out ano...

Re: WD1772 vs DP8473V

So far we can assume the old ULAs at $18000..$180FF and Qimi (original, not the one on the SQB) at $1BF00..$1BFFF. The rest is more or less up for grabs. One entry which I would add to this, is the entire first 4k of that area. There is a hidden agenda behind that one :P Curiosity raised :-) In my ...

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

For me the extensibility of QDOS and it's partnering BASIC. Although it lacks protective memory management, it does offer methods to allocate and deallocate memory and mechanisms to link blocks of memory for jobs and drivers. At the time it came out the QL was ahead of the curve and hampered only by...

Re: Floating a thought to understand the issues...

That dual ported RAM idea is effectively what the TUBE was on the BBC - but that was only a small dual ported RAM with interrupt lines for both side to indicate changed data was available. Some improvement in Interrupt handling can be done with the 'status affects vector' mechanism that z80 I/O and ...
