Re: Problem booting Super Gold Card

A (seemingly unrelated, but crucial) question: How is your monitor connected? Some SCART cables connect composite sync from the QL directly to SYNC on the RGB monitor, without any resistor in-between (should be ~3.3k, some say 330 should suffice). This doesn't hurt on the standard QL, but may severe...

Re: Knoware.no

QPAC2's "Files" is such a candidate that updates the stuffer buffer, even if you only <CTRL>-C through it. But yes, you have that other method, which is perfectly fine.

Re: Knoware.no

HOT_GETSTUFF$, however, carries a serious risk of a race condition, as the stuffer buffer is public (and could be changed/cleared by any job anytime). A pointer to a private buffer would be safer.

Re: New discovery? 'Life' by CAT Systems Ltd

The point is, the QL has only one reliable timing source, the 50/60Hz polling interrupt. This enables a software routine to detect the start of a screen frame. If you want to switch modes within that frame (which is the thing such programs do), the only way to determine the exact point in time (dete...

Re: Problem booting Super Gold Card

#1: Do any of the QL chips (notably 8301 and 8302) get (very) hot? Then it's likely you have a contact problem on the edge connector, leading to a failed handover between the two CPUs and, in that course, to both halves of the system meaning to own the bus, resulting in the bus driven from two ends....

Re: MDUMP TASK ?

Yeah, I guess that Daniele still has the source code. And the EXE says "Can run on Sinclair or Minerva QDOS only", so I'm not sure Minerva is completely out of the question. I also would pretty much doubt that Minerva can have different timings on Microdrive access routines than original ...

Re: SMSQE in MisTer

One of the original design decisions of the extended environment was the limitation that programs that didn't own the screen (i.e. not currently run in the foreground) are suspended. Not uptading background windows simply relieves the system from determining what windows need to be updated and what ...
