The visit of the Musée Bolo at the EPFL campus in Lausanne (Switzerland) last Saturday was my second Sinclair and Retro Computing highlight this September.

In this walkthrough video you’ll see (among other interesting things) a good old QL in action, connecting to a Linux based BBS using Telnet:

Watch out for pictures, stories and more videos which will be published in the days to come.

QL forever!

Cheers, Urs

Hi Urs,

Great video, lots of interesting computer equipment.

I used to us a QL to connect t Unix mainframes via QTPI and a USR Robotics modem.

Did they have a Cray running?

Didier Luthi informed me that the QL in action was running "QLTERM Version 2.32 Release 20/12/93 Copyright 1987,88,92,93 by Jan Bredenbeek". This software can be found on Dilwyn's Website.

No, but the museum owns 3 CRAYs! At that evening they fired-up the IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer. What a machine! I will publish a video of that later on this week.

Some link to nice webpages or PDFs about the museum:

As I could never pay the electricity bills running a Blue Gene, I'll better stick with the QL. ;-)

Sinclair QL rocks the party! (Bolo EPFL 2014-09-27)
http://youtu.be/-E37gj7jWv8

This is the sixth and last of a series of videos shot on the EPFL campus in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 2014-09-27. I was in the computer museum Bolo for only 75 minutes and oh man, I did six quality videos, saw and touched many beautiful systems, met great people and had a few very interesting chats. I call that a perfect hour.

Last weekend I was attending the QLis30 workshop in Edinburgh (Scotland). I’ve shot several videos which are now being uploaded to YouTube. Stay tuned...

The Sinclair QL ran at ~1 MIPS - equivalent to a VAX 11/780 @ 5 MHz.

The Cray Super Computer ran at 160 MIPS.

My Core i7 MBP runs at 118,000 MIPS. (118 BIPS!)
