QSTAR 1

Post by Andrew »

- TESTERS NEEDED -
The game is in Beta- version, so I need some testers. I could not find any errors, and that is strange :)
The game should work on any QL and only needs Toolkit2

ORIGIN
===============
The oldest version of this game that I was able to find is one written by HpDUSS
for the HP-48 calculator, dated October 10, 1995 and it was called DStar.
It has since been ported to various other systems, including various Texas
Instruments calculators, Atari, ZX Spectrum, TS2068, MSX, Spectravideo and
even Android and Apple devices.

SCOPE
===============
The scope of the game is to collect all diamonds in the least possible moves.
This is not simple by any means and will require quite a bit of thinking
and planning.

Really nice game, Andrei, and nicely polished presentation!

I did know it as a demo program ("D-Star") for the ZX Spectrum that is part if the SDCC C Compiler, but yours has much nicer animation, fonts and color. Couldn't find much of a flaw in it except maybe that the animation delay you can set with "D" is a bit rough on the edges: "0" is way too fast (and most of your nice animation is lost to it), while "1" is a bit on the slow end on most of my computers. Somewhere in-between would be nice.

Thank you Tofro!
Yes, I totally agree that something in-between would be nice ... but the delay set to 1 is only 1/50 second and I can't go any lower than that.
I am testing some other ways to create the delay, more accurate, but for now the delay is just a Pause 1. Well, it's just a Beta version, I am still trying to make the code faster, to have some more room to play with the delay.

Not had time to try it out (I'm useless at games anyway), but looks absolutely superb.

QSTAR 1 - new version (and probably final version)

Updates:
- added Spanish language
- changed animation speed, delay is more precise now
- added title screen
- added sound
- added command for Sound On/Off
- now delay is F1 and sound is F2
- updated readme_txt and leeme_txt
- updated the sprites a bit

If you find any errors please let me know.

This looks fun. I saw game-play from another platform and it does look challenging. Will try it out!

For me It do not work on a BBQ (minerva)+ Trump card, It show some text and at the end:
FTEST is not loaded.
FOP_IN is not loaded.
FOP_OVER is not loaded.
ALCHP is not loaded.

But if I boot from a disk where I have pe, It load correctly and is very good.

There is some typo in the spanish intro:
Line 3 "mental a"
Also check spaces, to much before "movimiento" I suggest "dia- mantes" in line 4.
"todos los" in first blue line.
"Heroe o Bloqueador" in last line.

First versión hang on level 3, but I was playing lastest and everything ok.

Works for me on BBQL (JS) + Trump 768k, but I do load the newest TK2 from QIMSI at boot time (if that has any relevance)

Will probably install Minerva this weekend and will report back if needed

(I did discover there’s an issue with my homemade joystick adapter in one direction!)

Many thanks

I decided to bite the bullet and have just installed Minerva. Still working fine.

Many thanks
