Testing new pinch rollers solution...

Post by Jbizzel »

I acquired a number of new Sony Walkman pinch rollers. These are almost the same dimensions as the QL, except they are taller and the teflon core has a narrower diameter.

I 3d printed a smaller washer, seen in yellow below, it's height is 1.5mm and I also drilled the core to 2mm on the new pinch rollers.

They fit like a dream, and I'm currently testing them.

So far...

Everything is working great. They seem to dir, format and load from drives quickly. They sound super smooth compared to my old rollers, and the best bit....

I've been able to format and read old carts that I couldn't before.

So far I am very happy. These rollers are excellent quality too. So it could be a great solution for for refreshing old rollers.

I have loads of these rollers if anyone else is interested. Although I'll keep testing for now.

So far, everything is awesome 😎

Looks very nice

At one time I bought some 3D printed ones and, although they seemed ok compared to my original ones, they were actually useless when I tried them

Would love to give them a try on my 2 QL's if you are UK based please

Many thanks

Those rollers look great!

I too would be very happy to purchase 4 or so of these rollers/spacers to repair some of my drives.

Do let us know if/when you are ready to prepare and sell some!

Well I have fully tested the rollers and I'm really pleased with how they are working.

Happy to sell the spares I made, let me know if you're interested.

Hi,

I can really recommend these rollers, smoother, quieter plus it seems to be more stable readings!

Well Done J

I'd be interested in 4 to the US. Would love to see if my external drive would read better on both my QL and Spectrum.
