vDrive Format Failed on MDV3

Post by t0nyt »

Hi.

My vMap/vDrive seemed to be working fine but this afternoon I can no longer format any image mounted as MDV3 (just comes up format failed)

I've tried obvious things like power cycling, tried an SDinit but no matter what image I mount as mdv3 (made with mkimg) fails to format. If I list the drives it shows the image mounted as MDV3 (whether it's an unformatted or formatted image)

So I added another virtual drive and I can format the same images if I attach them to the virtual MDV4

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what might be wrong please?

Many thanks

A bit of further testing shows I can read from/write to MDV3 (if the image is already formatted)

Strangely, and perhaps just my imagination, it seemed like reading MDV3 was a lot slower when copying MDV3->MDV4 compared to MDV4->MDV3

Well I swapped the 16GB SD card for a 2GB one and that seems to have solved the problem

Can now format MDV3, happy days hopefully

I tend not to use vDrive's built-in utilities for formatting or bank mapping. vDrive is nicely set up with a text-based config file where you can do all the drive management under Windows. All you need is one good formatted MDV file and you can duplicate it and add it to the bank. Likely, the MDV file mappped to mdv3 was corrupt and why it wouldn't work (i.e. all you had to do is point to a new one). Here's a look at my config file. I have stored things in folders to better organize my banks:

That was the strange thing though. No mdv file, including both known good and even new, would format as mdv3. But all the images would format fine as mdv4

Well the format issue with MDV3 came back today

After a quick bit of testing it seems to be related to my Trump 768k card

If I unplug the Trump card I can format MDV3, plug it back in and I can't

At least now I know the cause (if not the reason) I'll just mount images as MDV4 if I need to format them

Still confused as to why the problem isn't consistent though
