Re: Q40/Q60
Hi,
I used to build and sell the Q60, not sure if there is any interest these days.
Q60 was fairly successful, to the point I do not have one myself.

Surely, is!Derek_Stewart wrote:not sure if there is any interest these days.
Maybe not so many, but some want it!
Including myself!
The old QLs are nice, but Q60 is a step from the past to the present, without abandoning the QL "soul".
I will ask my friends, if someone of them wants to say "Yes!" too.

Re: Q40/Q60
If I could make the Q60 at a reason price I would, the cost is a little high.
I will look into how much I could make the boards for, bearing in mind each board is hand built.
I built my pre-production proto-type for 50% more exepensive than the bulk of the Q60 boards were sold.
Too many downsides to the Q60, hardware was perfect, the Q60 could run many operating systems. SMSQ/E let it down, another QL Trader did his best to cast doubt on the project.
However, since I have not got a Q60, I might look into the production.

I have placed the reference about your computer,
Many it is interesting.
I if fairly was удевлен that at you it has turned out.

Re: Q40/Q60
Is this still valid today, where Q68 and derivatives also implement a lot of modernization?
The main differences to a Q60 are CPU and graphics speed of course.
Reaching 68060 speed by FPGA won't be something I can realistically achieve within the next years.

Re: Q40/Q60
Hi,
The main reason that I did the Q60, in 2002, which was 22 years ago (where does the time go...), I wanted a 68060 based QL system. So the only way was to make one.
It does seem after all this time I still need a 68060 based QL.
The Q60 production was so sucessful, withno failures in the hardware produced. The only limiting factors was the reaction of other rstablished QL Traders... But enough of all thatm read QL Toay and QL-USERS mailing list to see the discussions.
There are now none of these pressures.
The Q60 came in 3 versions: Q60 60Mhz FPU,MMU , Q60 66Mhz, FPU, MMU, Q60 80Mhz, MMU only, No FPU.
Since the QL operating system can run without a FPU and MMU, maybe a less expensive 68EC060 80Mhz CPU could be used.
There is a problem with the Q60 VGA video output, which does not give a clear video output in 1024x512 HiColour mode, on a modern LCD monitor, it is perfect on a CRT monitor, durpe the wider signal scan rates.
I am looking into a ways of video signal conditioning to to suit moden LCD monitors.

This is such a tragedy. At design time, it was simply not foreseeable that flatscreen monitors would no longer have multisync capabilities.Derek_Stewart wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 10:48 pm There is a problem with the Q60 VGA video output, which does not give a clear video output in 1024x512 HiColour mode, on a modern LCD monitor
I have spent countless hours on this, but there is no fully satisfying solution.
A clear video picture is possible by a replacement PLD that generates 1024x768 resolution. But it keeps the lower part of the screen black and displays only 1024x512 in the upper area.
It has been said that OSSC converters can provide that, if they are well tuned. But one has to be careful about the various variants.Derek_Stewart wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 10:48 pm I am looking into a ways of video signal conditioning to to suit moden LCD monitors.
Also I find them clumsy and expensive.
