ED floppy blank formated image for gotek

Post by napsternds »

Hello,

I've been searching the forum looking for DD, HD and ED blank image files suitable for gotek, to use them with my gotek drive and tetroid's SGC clone.

I have found several very interesting posts and DD and HD images, but no ED blank img. I have also tried to generate them with FDI2 driver and ImageFileUtil software from Dilwyn's site, but the generated img are not recognized by the gotek. I ahve also seen that latest version of qltools may work for this purpose, but I am not a linux user, and latest version of qltools is only available for linux.....

Does anyone has available a blank ED img file? I do not know what else I can try.

Here's a blank (3.2 Mb) ED image file for you. It was created using the "qltools" utility, which you can find at https://github.com/SinclairQL/qltools.

Hope this helps.
ed.zip
(3.37 KiB) Downloaded 91 times
EDITED: To add the image "disc" size. This is an ED floppy sized image and thus, is 3.2 Mb (ok, MiB!) in size when uncompressed.

Cheers,
Norm.

Do you happen to know if the Gotek supports PC-style 2.8MB ED mages or QL-style 3.2MB ED images? Or both? Or possibly doesn't matter as it's a .img ?

Might help one of us make an image of the right type.

EDIT: Norman beat me to it (Hi Norman)!

Thank you Norman and Dilwyn.

Unfortunately, this image does not work with my gotek. I will have to do some more tests with the flashfloppy configuration.

I tried something similar with a version of this made by Zaxon some years ago. I assume that the firmware for the Gotek simply does not understand the ED format unfortunately.

But this seems to offer a glimmer of hope (From the reference that Norman provided):

"You cannot format ED disk images but, using examples/Host/Sinclair_QL/IMG.CFG copied to your USB drive, you can read and write to pre-formatted IMG images."

Hi,

Is the formatting problem not down to the controller on the Gotek PCB. All of my Goteks are Sfr1m44-u100k 3.5" USB Emulator,1.44MB Floppy Drive Emulators, so this could mean a maximum of 1.44Mb.

Though there are reports of 2.88Mb use.

Regards,

Derek
