...All sorted before I got a chance to take a look.

Seems like there's a bug in the UAE ROM initialisation code that prevents the SysVars being cleared at boot.
This leaves a random value in SV_THGLST (164024), the pointer to thing list.

This is probably causing the ERR_NI error that you are seeing.
It is likely fixed in the boot file that Markus uploaded in line 570 poke_l 164024,0
