Hi all,
I would like to find out if a port of ScummVM to our beloved system is possible. There are versions for Atari and Amiga and so I thought it would be possible.
General info about ScummVM can be found here: http://www.scummvm.org/
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
ScummVM supports many adventure games, including LucasArts SCUMM games (such as Monkey Island 1-3, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, ...), many of Sierra's AGI and SCI games (such as King's Quest 1-6, Space Quest 1-5, ...), Discworld 1 and 2, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins 1-3, The Legend of Kyrandia 1-3, many of Humongous Entertainment's children's SCUMM games (including Freddi Fish and Putt Putt games) and many more.
Best

Aurora or Q40, maybe?Dave wrote:I looked at this and don't think the QL is a suitable candidate for a port.
I cant imagine Return to Zork or Monkey Island in 4 or 8 colors without pallette, but Aurora or Q40 does not suffer from this problem.

Sure, isn't it possible with the GD2 drivers ?Dave wrote:It would definitely require extended graphics capabilities...
Re: ScummVM
Maybe stupid idea, but probably there is a way for unexpanded QL.
Requires both VRAMs and flipping every frame.

Dithvide image convertor sources (not necessary for Scumm, just for fun):

Re: ScummVM
Thanks for the link Thorsten! This ScummVM emulator looks really great , I downloaded the PC version and was able to play a LucasArts Indiana Jones games I have (unfortunately I'm not finding my Day of the Tentacle floppy, one of my favorite adventures). It even has MT-32 sound emulation, or can connect via MIDI to the real thing!
As for the QL, I doubt it's powerful enough to run this kind of programs in terms of speed and memory. For example, the PC installation is 15 MB of binaries, and that doesn't include the game files!

Good to hear that you have managed to make it work Indiana Jones. Just thought it would be possible to bring it to the QL as there is also an Amiga and Atari version out. Maybe the emulators have enough power ...
