Star Trek Discovery

Post by Cristian »

Have you seen some episodes of this new show? I've seen a couple of them and of couse for me it's too soon to have a definitive opinion.
I can say that the movie-like visual effects are impressive, and for the moment the episodes are inviting and promising. Still I'm not sure this is Star Trek...

IMO its utter bollocks. Scripts and acting are so terrible it makes early ToS look supreme.

1) The Original Series is supreme in any case :-)
2) The acting of 1960 can't be the same after 50 year of human/social history. Many moves, facial expressions or emphatic situations may result ridiculous today.
3) The trap of nostalgia is always ready to catch people who (like me) loved TOS.
So still I don't know: I can't express an ultimate judgement after two episodes.

Your missing the point, the beginning of ToS and TNG were ropey as hell.

Discovery suddenly made them look like cinematic master pieces.

Also we have the Orville to directly compare with, the Orville obviously has script editors and someone who understands the importance of continuity checking a script.

I'm amused at all the acronyms flying around for the old series, but so far, nobody hss used STD for the new series. I wonder why? :D

Cheers,
Norm.

No, I didn't miss the point: we simply have different sci-fi conceptions. The lack of resources doesn't matter for me. I loved the beginning of TNG and even more the beginning of TOS.
Anyway of course I respect your (severe and ultimate) opinion. For the moment I'll wait to watch some more, then I'll decide.

Maybe because it is a wrong acronym (the correct one would be DIS)?
