Windows Live Mail

Post by dilwyn »

Not been able to find the answer tothis elsewhere, so I'll ask the infinite pool of knowledge on this Forum.

Seen scare stories about Windows Live Mail not working beyond the end of June - what I'm not sure is if this only relates to outlook.om style (i.e. Micro$oft) email accounts. Surely WLM will still work with POP3 type accounts (won't it?) since older pre Win8 PCs won't support the Mail app from M$

Starting to panic I won't be able to get my QL Forum feeds and QL emails unless I start to look for another mailer! There was something about this in Computeractive, but it didn't make it clear if the WLM prog will stop altogether, or just not work with the M$-type mail addresses.

All but one of my email addresses are POP3 and not outlook/hotmail/whatever, so I'm *hoping* I don't have to panic yet

Hi Dilwyn,

I have set this up for my wife on her laptop, Tablet for POP3

The email client finds the Windows Liver Server based on the email address.

But there is a manual option, where the POP3 and SMTP server setting are required.

The setting are:

Incoming: pop3.live.com
Outgoing: smtp.live.com
User Name is your entire email address eg. : itproguru@live.com
password: YourPassword
You need to turn on “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”
Incoming Server Port: 995 (Requires SSL)
Outgoing Server Port: 25 (Requires TLS)

Regards,

Derek

Thanks Derek. This will be useful. We'll just have to wait to see if it carries on working after M$'s deadline in June.
