Hello from South Africa

Post by The_Librarian »

Hello all

I have never had a QL, but a Spectrum.

I'm going through a retro stage at this moment, since old tech is more interesting than the bland new technology which's been forced down our throats these days.

My aim is to get a QL emulator up and running and play with it for a while.

This place looks quite interesting, will hang around for a bit.

Cheers for now.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
I agree with what you say about old tech being more interesting in many ways than bland modern stuff.

A selection of QL emulators may be found on the Emulators page on my website at http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/emu/index.html. I use QPC2 on Windows, which is free nowadays (QPC2, not Windows!!). However, that uses the SMSQ/E version of the operating system rather than the original QDOS, if you prefer to use the original version of the operating system there are QL2K (postcardware), QemuLator (shareware) and QLay/QLay2 (freeware). QemuLator is great for testing and running QL software - the unregistered version is usable, but limited speed and memory, while the registered version adds all sorts of configurations.

(All the above for Windows).

We're a friendly gang on here, don't be afraid to ask questions!

Warm welcome - if you are a Linux user there is a new release of uQLx which works on modern versions and does a lot!
