Is anyone else watching this site intently now as it is July 2011, the deadline apparently or am I the only one.
Two reasons, to see it actually go on sale and to see if Sinclar (oops sorry), Sir Clive is up to his old "delaying tactics" scenario, again

Re: SinclairZX
Ah but then July 2011 is a whole month - so the deadline could be 1st or 31st....
And of course it is only ' estimated delivery' - its a wonder they don't say "within 28 days"...

Re: SinclairZX
I know quite a few C5 lads have tried to buy the new one but have had zero reply from the sales email addy.
Re: SinclairZX
Will indeed be interesting whether he manages to make a success of this one. Hopefully, he has learned from past experience with the C5, but we'll see.Mr_Navigator wrote:Is anyone else watching this site intently now as it is July 2011, the deadline apparently or am I the only one.

Every time I see that advert, the phrase "MCR pancake motor" makes me laugh, because the word pancake makes you think of an accident

Re: SinclairZX
Read all the above just made me chuckle all the more, here's hoping for something better with this product, as I am seriously thinking about it.
I cannot help but remember the tantrums in the 'Micro Men', BBC, where Sir Clive was not getting things happen when he wanted so shouting at people was a way to increase productivity. I can just imagine the situation now with CS on the phone to his production team (one person probably) :
"What!, what do you mean it doesn't work, I've seen the video"
- short delay
"What!, it's not ready, well tell them it's 28 day delivery, that will get me to the end of August"
- short delay
"What! what do you mean it falls over, hasn't it got a stand?"
- short delay
"I don't care if you can't source the motor, take one out of a microwave or something!"

Re: SinclairZX
If all else fails, to still ensure that they meet the deadline, they could always stick a huge chunk of ugly mis-shaped plastic on the back of the machine and explain that the software for controlling the motor had grown out of expected memory limits, to add exciting features like lights.
Of course, machines will then be able to be returned to a free upgrade to allow the bigger ROM chips onboard when the software and features are finalised.

Re: SinclairZX
The initial released version will be badged as a LM
The next release will be NS
The next release will be badged with an EM
The next release will be badged as OM
The final released version of the C5+ oops X1 will be called 'Manoeuvre'
Key:
LM = Last Minute
NS = New Software
EM = Expanded Memory
OM = Overheated Motor

Re: SinclairZX
The sad thing is the C5 is a very well made piece of kit. It's made more like a car than something knocked up in a shed (which i thought it would be like). The design and testing that went into the parts is fairly amazing.
I've got a DVD of the parts test bed at Lotus which had machines testing each part to destruction Most of the parts are stamped Sinclair a bit like when you pull a car to bits all the parts are stamped with numbers/logos.

What I still can't quite figure out is how you fit the darn thing in your ear and tune it for radio receptionMr_Navigator wrote:The initial released version will be badged as a LM

(Does anyone else see the similarity in design even!)

Yes, I do now, the size initially threw me, its all a question of perspective and X1 is not really an in the ear radio, the X1 is the pancake motor used in the X-1 electric bike
