Dave,
Yeap. First thing I tried. Checked both computers working without SGC, both same noise & no output with the SGC.

Dave,
I'm going to poke it a few times first. Check for shorts etc.

Standby alert
“There are four lights!”
Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb
Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year
QL, Falcon, Atari 520STFM, Atari 1040STE, more PC's than I care to count and an assortment of 8 bit micros (Sinclair and Acorn)(nearly forgot the Psion's)

Yes.
If you put a Gold Card in front of you so the gold heatsink is in the top left corner facing left:
Battery is red SAFT 40LF220 just above the CPU, just left of RAM, with four legs into four gold turned pin sockets. + is bottom left corner.
If you put a Super Gold Card in front of you so the gold heatsink is in the top left corner, facing left:
Battery is red SAFT 40LF220 to right of RAM, above EPROM and 74HCT244, left of MM58274, in four gold turned pins covering up the MC68EC020FE25. + is lost to the sands of time.
