That's not even funny. A Sinclair QL was used in a nuclear power station in the 80s. I know we used one at Sizewell because I saw it with my own eyes.
If it was a Beeb it might still even be in use today.

Are you using an RGB converter? Does it work in mode 4?

Re: New QL backplane.
Design verified. It works well. Doesn't introduce a lot of noise into signals, and having two cards in actually seems to clean up bouncing on a few lines which is a nice and unexpected finding. It really is a tight squeeze under the keyboard, with the metal plate touching the top edge of the backpla...

Re: Discussion about connecting RASPI to QL
The Pi Zero, either version, can be used. However, it's slower, single core, only has 512MB, and runs GPIO at about 1/3rd the speed of a Pi3. It also only has 1/8th the video prowess of the Pi3.
So yes, a Pi Zero can be used. It's pretty good for 5 bucks.

Re: Discussion about connecting RASPI to QL
One thing this DOES allow is the Pi to operate the bus and snoop the QL IO area. It could read keyboard inputs, and read/write the microdrives, use the serial ports, etc. It could run uQLx, and use the QL's hardware as an accessory. It would be by far the most powerful BBQL

Re: New QL backplane.
There is going to be a version 2. This one works nicely, and doesn't introduce a lot of noise into the lines like the old QPlane did, but it would be nice to add some pull-ups, pull-downs, a couple of capacitors, blinkenlights, a flux capacitor, go-faster stripes from a 1978 Ford Escort, TARDIS cons...

Re: Converting ESC/P2 output for modern printing
He is. The conversation is just focusing on internal processing and output formats right now. Looking at the code, this should be able to accept ESC/P2 for any Epson compatible printer - color or mono.
Do you think this'll run ok on a Pi Zero? (512MB, single core?)

Re: Discussion about connecting RASPI to QL
Just threw this together real quick to get an idea of the areas and spacings involved: Pimod1.jpg IC1-4 would be level shifters. All ports would be conveniently available outside the QL. I'd make a duplicate copy of the Pi connector so it would be easy to snoop traffic. The 5V and 3V3 regulators wou...
