Re: Today I Received...

Built this a few years ago using MC68681 (3 byte receive FIFO).

Just picked up a bargain deal I couldn't ignore on 26 of SC28L92 (16 char FIFOs). :D :D :D

Re: Andy Pennell's books.

At least all the information is available not like that in the past, many information was closed to mere mortals, only God like being were granted access, or thats how seemed. Agreed, I could almost weep at the amount of mental effort I put into deciphering the binary just to understand a point whi...

Re: Upgrading Q40 to 68060 CPU

The oscillator frequency can be 60.0 MHz or 66.0 MHz depending on jumper setting. For the 68060RC50A CPU you apparently had ordered, I would recommend 60.0 MHz. I don't have RC50A grade, I only have RC50 (for other project). I was going to get a RC66 (pending a RC75) , so I'll get 66.000MHz oscilla...

Re: Upgrading Q40 to 68060 CPU

I was going to order suitable oscillator. I know the RC66 CPU is rated for 66.667MHz, but I was unsure whether logic is configured for 66.000MHz. Both speeds are available in DIP14 oscillators.

Re: Upgrading Q40 to 68060 CPU

BTW what oscillator speed did you use for RC66, is it 66.666MHz or 66.000MHz ?

Re: Magnetic Scrolls Interpreter - Christmas Edition

You might be surprised that each of the original pictures uses a palette of only 16 unique colours. I found the original pictures here Thanks I recall now that one of the problems I encountered with FS dithering was it over brightened JPEGs. So I added option to restrict dithering (\d0 to \d4), wit...

Re: Magnetic Scrolls Interpreter - Christmas Edition

you can play the games in your browser https://msmemorial.if-legends.org/msa2/msa2.html#close and copy the enhanced pictures as gif 240x149 pixels to your computer Ah, but I'd have to be able to make progress into the game to do that  I'm still trying to move the boulder blocking the North pa...

Re: Magnetic Scrolls Interpreter - Christmas Edition

Well, they're packed (rather: concatenated with a small header) in the .gfx files. The format of those is (somewhat loosely) described in the "tech_txt" file on GitHub. The truth is (as always) in the code. Ah, I'd hoped that wasn't the case, thought the original images may have also been...

Photon also used Floyd Steinberg 7/3/5/1 distribution : http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/graphics/photonsource.zip see process_asm (line 112 onwards).

BTW tofro, are the original raw images available? I had a quick search but never found them.

Re: Upgrading Q40 to 68060 CPU

As I wrote earlier, I can also program the chips for you. I'm impressed that you invest the time to build a PLCC programming adaptor. I'm keen to have hands-on experience of tools/software. Breakout board for PLCC is also going to be useful for other projects (I also have programmer and some Xilinx...
