Re: New microdrive internal replacement
I think a bi colour led - with common anode or cathode - that indicates one colour or another depending on whether reading or writing is taking place - it's nice to know which is happening - but my guess is they won't both be on simultaneously

Re: New microdrive internal replacement
It stands to reason that you will only be reading or writing - never doing both at the same time - and I am guessing that the status LED is indicating the presence or not of the SD card? I would have to look over the logic of the card again. You also have the small display - which could convey a lot...

Re: Issue 6 board updates
L5 needs to be a large 1 or 2 W inductor as it's in the 9v feed for the Microdrives and is there to prevent noise being passed through the supply. It should be rated for at least 1 Amp L3 can be a lower power - 1/4 W inductor - it's used in the PAL video encoder chip circuit. Both components should ...

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
I'd be interested to know how much of the 'ancient' software would actually have issues with video / memory timing changes. The Vsynch interrupt which seems to be used by the job scheduler as it's main default tick (although - before you all jump down my throat here - I know that it can cycle around...

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
I think there is a good deal of interest in a direct or enhanced but basically compatible ZX8301. Enhanced could mean: output to VGA rather than composite signals Better protection of Video output signals (as this is the main failing of the ZX8301 in QL's) Faster memory access times or reduced waiti...

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
I think the clue there is the forum title for this thread. Why? The QL CPU is replaced by a faster one, which is far more than a ZX8301 replacement either way. Apologies - no offence was meant - but I think he probably covers the addition of the faster CPU with the "and more" ;) ...but I ...

Re: FPGA replacment for the ZX8301 ULA and more
Wow - more than double a stock QL - and still 8 bit wide - so this is all achieved through faster memory access and a faster CPU - 133% faster. Well the disk test makes the index a bit faster, I think it's more close to 2X, 100% faster that's not bad. I was just looking at the CPU clock speed - so ...
