Re: mgbe rom ??
Day and month names are definitely Dutch, but the error messages are in English (with first letter in capital, unlike the Sinclair ROMs). The copyright message shows 1989 so definitely not an official Sinclair ROM. "I can't trap that" replaces "during WHEN processing", "I've...

Re: New QL user & owner
I did some investigation, tracking back the seller of this QL on ebay. There was a second auction from the same seller where the "Sinclair QL EPROM Cartridge Board with an EPROM labelled 13-2-84 8000 0D0C as checksum" was sold. Most likely this would fit to this QL computer with the ZX-83...

Re: New QL user & owner
With the upper 16K missing the RAM test should still work as this lies within the first 16K ROM. Given the fact that the test pattern doesn't appear, it looks like there is another hardware failure.

Re: New QL user & owner
That looks like it's an early development machine used internally within Sinclair. The date on the ROMs would be about a month after the announcement of the machine in the media but a few months before the dongle encrusted machines made it into people's hands. I would be very surprised if the ROMs ...

Re: New QL user & owner
- Most likely this QL came with a ROM port dongle holding at least additional 16 KB of the firmware (in a third 27128 EPROM IC), usually labelled 8000 (at address 8000 Hex). Do you have got a ROM port dongle or any additional EPROM ICs? If it's a FB ROM, you might be able to complete it using the Q...

Re: BEEP
No easy way, the QL's pitch range is rather limited compared to the Spectrum's. I've once written a BCSOUND procedure for implementing sound in BASICODE, which uses parameters similar to the Spectrum's, though the pitch is offset by 60 (which is middle-C). The QL's hardware limits the pitch range fr...

Re: Rounding in QSpread
The Julian Day is not the same as the Julian Calendar. It is the date expressed in days from 1st January 4713 BC at noon and mainly used for astronomical calculations where a continuous day numbering comes in handy.

Re: Rounding in QSpread
I've used the method of converting between Gregorian Date and Julian Date from Jean Meeus. It is working fine with Abacus. I'm doing the same method with SuperBasic, but using "PRINT USING" to get the output to be what I need. Ah yes, I used the 'bible' from Meeus too (Astronomical Formul...

Re: Rounding in QSpread
I was not trying to balance my checkbook, but converting Gregorian data to Julian Day. The current Julian Day is 2459847.5, which will round up. The QL's FP system uses 31-bit mantissa so should be sufficient for about 9.5 digits accuracy. However when converting to ASCII it rounds to only 7 digits...
