Re: Q68 New users and general usage thread

For typical usage like COPY or SERNET this was tested from PC to Q68, and should be no problem. I have never been able configure SERNET satisfactorily. Is there a tutorial (step by step type) about SERNET installation / configuration? Connect two Q68, or one Q68 and one PC, with a normal PC nullmod...

Hi Tobias,

Yes, the same hope as for the Q60. ;)

Re: 68060 based QL system?

Hi Peter, As for Q60 flatscreen support, there is a solution in test phase, just not ideal, as it leaves one third of the screen black. There are three test machines, and I had no negative reports yet. Picture quality is reported to be quite good, just not extremely sharp as on the Q68. If and when...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

You ask people for their opinions and then you tell them they’re wrong. Are you aware that I agree to what you wrote about DMA? Why ask if you’re only going to accept the answers you already agree with? I asked because I wondered (and still wonder) how people see 68060 systems today, and keep watch...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

One of the big snags of the option of improving the Q68 is if the original supporters who have already bought a unit will get upgrades, and if those upgrades will carry the same heavy mark-ups of the Q68 itself. It would be good to see a self-administerable option to upgrade a system that doesn't r...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

Problems: 68060RC availability and price, no LCD display compatible mode, ISA cards availability... Not sure it is viable any more nowadays. As for Q60 flatscreen support, there is a solution in test phase, just not ideal, as it leaves one third of the screen black. There are three test machines, a...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

Interesting message thread, I was under the impression that DMA could not be used on the Q60. On the current Q60, there is no DMA controller. T. just claimed, that it would increase transfer rate , if implemented. Which it can not, because the bus is the bottleneck, and as I have shown, the 68060 i...

Re: Q68 New users and general usage thread

The problem is that I had to put a "Thread.Sleep" (between 5 and 20 ms) inside loop that transfers the individual bytes in PC side so the connection is reliable. The Q68 SER has no hardware handshake, so you need to be sure the receiving software actually processes its input fast enough. ...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

You came up with your Q60 CDROM experiences, then: Either way, it is the peripheral bus (ISA), not the CPU, which slows down CDROM data transfer on the Q60. DMA would not speed up the transfer. Oh yes it would !!!! That's how you started the dispute, of course about Q60/ISA scenario. Even with four ...

Re: 68060 based QL system?

I just kept coming back to your original point that DMA was required for faster data transfer rate, which remains wrong, no matter how you turn it. Sad that you don't admit that a well implemented DMA, able to transfer one word (with word width = bus width) at each bus or memory clock cycle is *obv...
