How about the recent GoldCard clones then?

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

A lower resolution Aurora mode would be what you need. Too late now :?

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

I would definitely use 512x256 or 512x384 resolution and 16 bit colour. Not only less memory expensive, but also 65280 more colours, which allows anti-aliasing and interpolation. I agree that the colour limitations of 8 bit could be camouflaged - but 16 bit colour allows to write the game in a way t...

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

It has socalled "sysDSP" blocks for high performance multiply and accumulate. Which by the way are far from being used to full potential at 40 MHz and only 16 bit.

Or up to 4 shifts if you run from normal SDRAM anyway. ;)

Wording to-the-point ;) Off-topic again, but do you remember if the Aurora still supported microdrives?

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

What about division ? Is it just as fabulous ? No, division is not particularly fast. Also there is no barrel shifter, shift operations take as many cycles as the shift distance. (Never use shift operations to optimize multiplication.) Are there other marvels in the Q68, Peter ? I'm not aware at th...

Re: Just renewed my Quanta Subscription

I'm trying to, but QUANTA has not yet managed to provide its bank account information. Neither in letter (where they offer bank transfer as payment option), nor by their web form nor by asking on the ql-users mailing list.

Re: TerribleFire accelerator for the QL accelerator card

Dave, by the way, it is likely that just adding cache to the Q68 would result in higher average performance than even a good 68030 system. This is because the 68030 needs minimum 2 cycles for a primitive instruction, while the Q68 needs only one (if run from cache or fast RAM). Also, for example, th...
