Re: Microdrive Unit Design

Hi Cristian, You may find Issue#6 board component layout helpful when locating R25 resistor, it is found in the middle column below modulator, to the left of MDV1 ribbon cables. http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/hardware/05.png You can take a picture of its colour stripes that encode the resistance, or m...

Re: Microdrive Unit Design

Hi, Perhaps if you could measure R25 in your QL Iss#5 main board, it could tell us if R25 in your QL does not deviate from documented values in the Service Manual, this will then exclude that erase current is influencing higher sector you get. We could then concentrate on drive speed. To tell whethe...

Re: Microdrive Unit Design

The same modifications described in the service manual Yes, D22/D23 in series with R101/R102. They can read or format cartridges (both original Psion and miscellaneous) otherwise unreadable or unformattable. Also they run tapes that are completely stuck with the other 4 drives Not sure if the mod c...

Re: Microdrive Unit Design

As promised, here are some (mediocre) photos of my straight-edged Mdv units: Hi, Straight edged ones are usually Iss#5, the ones on your pictures might be even pre-Iss#5 ones, as they do not have two mods applied, two diodes and one track cut from the rear of the head board assembly. Keyed edged ar...

Re: Microdrive Unit Design

Hi,

I was thinking to run `QL health clinic' for all those unwanted microdrives. Some may prove beyond repair, those fixed can be offered back on owner's behalf to QL community to save on postage.

Re: ATARI ST SMSQ/E

Hi, Being owner of ATARI ST, I am curious to give it also a try. I read somewhere, cannot now remember the source, that SMSQ/E was originally designed for ATARI ST, as initially QL did not have enough computing resources, only later when Gold/Trump cards came around with more memory and CPU, was pos...

Call SuperBASIC from M/C

Hi, I have done some basic assembly coding for the QL, suited for the CALL command from within SBASIC program. Now I may face writing a SBASIC extension, something I have not done before, though there are some nice examples to draw on here in the forum, also QL Technical Guide gives essential info. ...

Re: ULA ZX8301 - TV Picture Capabilities

Hi Martin, ZX/ATARI over UHF modulated TV cable, picture is of good quality, this may exclude TV from fault finding, I should think. I did not try QL composite output, that would require feeding the signal to a yellow input socket on my TV, also bypassing modulator is needed for that, to get composi...
